THE WING CHUN SCHOOL
WE ARE A TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL THAT STRIVES IN MAINTAINING HIGH STANDARDS IN THE ART OF WING CHUN.
The Wing Chun School is where ‘old school’ Kung Fu principles meets ‘new school’ methods. We understand that Martial Arts has evolved and so we adapt to these changes, while still maintaining our traditions. We practice our art form with traditional Chinese etiquettes, which allows our students to experience how Kung Fu is taught in China. Alongside teaching the art of Wing Chun, we emphasise on guiding the Martial Artist on their journey of self discovery.

WHICH MARTIAL ARTS SHOULD I LEARN?
If you are considering the study of martial arts, it is essential to conduct thorough research and identify the discipline that aligns most closely with your objectives, preferences, and personal disposition.
For individuals who favour hand-based striking, Boxing may be an appropriate choice. Those who prefer powerful kicks and full-body striking techniques might find Muay Thai more suitable. If striking is not of interest and you are drawn instead to grappling and ground-based techniques, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu may be the most fitting option. Practitioners who wish to develop both striking and grappling skills may benefit from the balanced and comprehensive nature of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Some systems, such as Escrima, focus primarily on weapon training, while others—including Karate—offer a more traditional and structured approach.
Given the wide range of martial arts available, it is important to recognise that each discipline possesses its own strengths, limitations, and areas of emphasis. Before making a selection, take time to reflect on the type of practitioner you aspire to become. Do you prefer striking or grappling? Are you inclined to specialise in particular techniques, or do you wish to cultivate a more diverse skill set? Are you drawn to traditional systems, or do you favour contemporary, mixed-style approaches? Would you like to incorporate weapons training into your practice?
Ultimately, martial arts represent a journey of personal development and self-discovery. Understanding your own motivations and goals is the first and most significant step. Once you have clarified your preferences, you can continue your path by seeking an instructor and training environment that support your chosen direction.
WHAT IS WING CHUN?
Wing Chun is a traditional Chinese martial art that emphasises efficient and direct striking techniques. The system primarily uses the arms for striking, with kicks and knees delivered only below the waist. Designed for close-range combat, Wing Chun trains practitioners to generate power and precision from compact, close-contact positions.
In addition to striking, Wing Chun incorporates standing grappling and clinch-based drills. These methods focus on controlling or trapping an opponent’s arms to create openings for effective counter-strikes. The system does not include ground-submission techniques, as its philosophy prioritises remaining on the feet and using defensive strategies to prevent the fight from transitioning to the ground.
Wing Chun also features two traditional weapon systems: 八斬刀法 (Eight Slashing Knives) for short-range application and 六點半棍 (Six and a Half Point Pole) for long-range combat.
