Sifu David Tsan

師傅陳振英

SiFu David Tsan, also known as “Dawud,” has been training in Wing Chun under the guidance of Grandmaster Garry McKenzie since 2010. He is among the select few practitioners to have completed all four gradings within The Wing Chun School system. In 2013, Grandmaster Garry authorised him to teach, and in January 2014, David opened his first school in Peckham. Since then, he has been extensively involved in instruction and currently manages schools, clubs, and private training sessions throughout London. His teaching activities now extend across the boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham, Lambeth, Chelsea, Camden, Harrow, Ilford, Tower Hamlets, and Hackney.

In 2015, Grandmaster Garry promoted David to the rank of Dai SiHing (Senior Kung Fu Brother), entrusting him with the supervision of the children’s classes at the Hackney headquarters. David has also participated in numerous seminars and demonstrations affiliated with TWCS, including the UK Wing Chun Gathering, the Wan Kam Leung London Seminar, and Festival Asia.

In November 2015, he travelled to Hong Kong and Foshan, China, where he visited several Wing Chun schools and participated in demonstrations and seminars with TWCS. During this trip, he had the honour of meeting SiGung Ip Ching, as well as a number of esteemed Wing Chun SiFus, including Chau Lin Fat, Kong Chi Keung, Buick Yip, Hawkins Cheung, Sam Lau, John Wong, among others.

During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, despite the closure of nonessential businesses and the implementation of social distancing measures, David continued teaching all of his classes online through video conferencing. This marked the first time TWCS offered online instruction, and David successfully delivered high-quality Wing Chun training in this format.

In July 2022, David completed his qualification to teach the principles and applications of the Mohk Yahn Johng (wooden dummy) form.

In November 2023, he travelled to Hong Kong—the first TWCS trip there since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Led by Grandmaster Garry, the group visited several Wing Chun SiFus and their schools, including John Wong, Donald Mak, Dennis Lee, and Buick Yip.
