Sifu David Tsan

 

SiFu David Tsan aka ‘Dawud’ has been training Wing Chun under the tutelage of Grandmaster Garry McKenzie since 2010 and has completed all four gradings under The Wing Chun School system. In 2013, Grandmaster Garry granted him the permission to teach. On January 2014, he opened his first school in Peckham. Since then, he has become heavily involved in teaching Wing Chun and is currently managing schools, clubs, and private sessions all around London. Dawud currently operates in the borough of Southwark, Lambeth, Chelsea, Camden, Ilford, and Hackney.

In 2015, Grandmaster Garry promoted David to ‘Dai SiHing’ (Senior Kung fu brother) to oversee the children’s classes in Hackney HQ. David has taken part in various seminars and demonstrations associated with TWCS, including UK Wing Chun gathering, Wan Kam Leung London Seminar and Festival Asia.

In October 2015, Participated in organising and running the children’s activities for the 25th TWCS anniversary celebrations. He also participated in the demonstrations along with the other instructors.

In November 2015, travelled to Hong Kong and Foshan China. He visited various Wing Chun Schools across the country and took part in demonstrations and seminars with TWCS. He had the privilege to meet SiGung Ip Ching and other Wing Chun SiFus such as Chau Lin Fat, Kong Chi Keung, Buick Yip, Hawkins Cheung, Sam Lau, John Wong and many others.

In December 2017, passed his final grading earning an ‘Advanced level’ certification.

In May 2018, David was involved in a short documentary about a young boy who struggled with bullying at school and turned to learning Wing Chun to help him solve his problems.

In March 2019, assisted grandmaster Garry in a Wing Chun seminar in Oslo, Norway.

During the lockdown of 2020, despite the closure of all nonessential businesses and social distancing, David continued to teach all his classes by using online video conferences. It was the first time TWCS offered services online and Dawud was able to successfully deliver quality Wing Chun content online.

In July 2022, David completed his course in qualifying to teach the principles and applications of the ‘Mohk Yahn Johng’ (wooden dummy) form.
